KEAR Civil Corporation was contracted to support the refurbishment of (6) 1,000 GPM jet fuel pumps at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Phoenix, Arizona. The vertical turbine pumps were taken offline and removed by the KEAR team and shipped to the manufacturer one at a time. To provide continuous fuel to the airfield, only 2 pumps could be out of service at one time. After factory refurbishment and returning to Phoenix, each pump and motor was set, and a new coupler was installed. Sulzer Pump Services aligned and verified proper operation, including vibration amplitude readings. The hydrant pump system was fully functional throughout the process of refurbishing all six pumps, performing each evolution, one pump at a time, while maintaining the full capability of the hydrant system. KEAR managed all aspects of this project including coordination with vendors, facility managers and airport management.
